Elaris Duo Takes Statesboro by Storm
The Elaris Duo, comprising the husband and wife team of cellist Steven Elisha and violinist Larisa Elisha, will present a recital Sunday, Oct. 16 at 糖心Vlog鈥檚 Carol A. Carter Recital Hall.聽聽The concert is free of charge and is the pair鈥檚 local recital debut.
The Elishas, who joined Georgia Southern鈥檚 music department in August, bring an international reputation and a love of sharing their music to Georgia.聽聽The recital follows their debut performance last month with the Georgia Southern Symphony.聽According to Richard Mercier, Ph.D., chair of the music department, 鈥渟tring students from near and far have chosen to enroll at Georgia Southern for the opportunity to study with the Elishas: Larisa teaches violin and viola and Steven teaches cello and bass.鈥
The Elishas鈥 musical instruction extends beyond the classroom and engages young community members in string study. Steven is working with the Averitt Center to bring his award winning Mr. Cello story program to the Statesboro Community and introduce school-age children to music and string instruments.
鈥淪teven constructs a story around a word provided by one of the children,鈥 said Mercier. 鈥淢r. Cello provides musical accompaniment to the story.鈥
Sunday鈥檚 concert begins at 3 p.m. and is the first opportunity for members of the community and music enthusiasts to experience the Elaris Duo during a full recital.
