糖心Vlog Features First Alumni Exhibition

eaglehead糖心Vlog鈥檚 Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art presents听颁辞苍迟颈苍耻耻尘, an exhibition that聽showcases paintings, photographs, prints, sculpture, and works in new media by outstanding art alumni.聽The exhibition opened Oct. 8 and will run through Nov. 7 in the Contemporary Gallery at the Center for Art and Theatre on Georgia Southern鈥檚 campus. The Department of Art will host a reception on Friday, Oct. 26, at 6 p.m. 鈥淭he selection of alumni work for this exhibition posed a curatorial challenge鈥 said Gallery Director Marc Mitchell, who teamed with Art History Professor Julie McGuire to curate the event. 鈥淲e are well aware of the many accomplishments of our alumni, but how were we to make selections among the many fine possibilities? It was akin to being asked which is your favorite child,鈥 added McGuire, whose history with the alumni aided the recently appointed Mitchell in the organization of the show. The duo identified a diverse, yet select, representation of the leading work by graduates. Mitchell and McGuire agree that the artists whose work has been selected for this inaugural alumni exhibition bring a range of approaches and techniques to their artistic practice. Seen together, their work 鈥渆xemplifies the vibrancy and eclecticism of the contemporary art world.鈥 Alumni contributing to聽Continuum聽include Ashley Anderson, Marisa Avelar, Samantha Bonnell, Rob Chandler, Justin Collins, Jermaine Dawson, Dawn and Michael Dickins, Scott Howard, Matt Jones, Duke Oursler, Michelle Parker, Desmal Purcell, Heath Ritch, Mandy Rutherford, Elizabeth Shoer, Linda Smith, Josh Strait, Matthew Toole, Josh Tuminella, Brent Williams, Ian Winsemius and Michael Winsor. Gallery Programming is supported by Student Activity Fees; all events are free and open to the public. The Center for Art and Theatre is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. and by appointment.
