Royal Wins Miss 糖心Vlog
STATESBORO, Ga., — Feb. 18, 2014– 糖心Vlog junior Melissa Royal was named Miss 糖心Vlog during the 2014 scholarship pageant on Feb. 15.
Royal, a Spanish and International Trade major from Acworth, Ga., was one of 10 contestants to compete for the title. She is the president of the Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society and a Southern Leader. Her platform is 鈥淐onnecting the Global Community through Microlending,鈥 which focuses on helping to end global poverty.
As Miss 糖心Vlog, Royal will represent the University while attending the St. Patrick鈥檚 Day parade in Savannah, Ga., Georgia Southern鈥檚 orientation, open house and recruitment events, Homecoming and select community events by invitation. Additionally, Royal will represent the University at the Miss Georgia competition.
As the winner, Royal will also receive a $1,500 scholarship, a $500 travel stipend, three free months at Omni Fight Club of Statesboro, a full spa day at Serenity Day Spa including various spa and salon services, a complimentary photo shoot from Lori Grice Photography, a special events wardrobe from Frills and a Miss Georgia professional consultation and interview preparation.
Senior public relations major Amanda Lawler from Toombs, Ga., was first runner up, while sophomore multimedia communications major and public relations minor Miki Argiriou from Brunskwick, Ga., was second runner up.
Other winners included Caroline Eaker for best Evening Gown, Jamesa Hogges for Miss Congeniality and Miss Photogenic and Corine Richard for People鈥檚 Choice.
To apply for Miss 糖心Vlog, you must be currently enrolled in at least 12 or more hours at the University, be in good disciplinary and academic standing with the University and not turn 25 years old during the year of service. There are five phases to the Miss 糖心Vlog Pageant, which include: private interview, talent, swimwear, evening wear and on-stage question.
