16th Annual Cross-Cultural Counseling and Education Conference opens call for proposals

A is now open for the the 16th Annual Cross-Cultural Counseling and Education Conference that will be held at the Coastal Georgia Center in Savannah Feb. 17-18, 2017. The theme of this year鈥檚 conference is Ethical Responsibility and Culturally Responsive Counseling, which embraces anti-oppressive and multicultural perspectives. The conference focuses on racial identity development, ethnic identity development and gender and sexual orientation, from infancy through adult maturity. A recognition of this development is necessary to understand the dynamics of multi-ethnic and multi-racial groups in the United States. Major topics include identity development: racial, ethnic, gender, sexual orientation and ability; white/male/heterosexual privilege; cultural diversity; cultural and ethical competencies in counseling and education; and anti-oppression/anti-racism. Speakers include Patricia Arredondo, Ed.D., the first and only Latina to serve as president of the , and the William Cross Jr. Lecture Series speaker, Kenneth Foster, Ph.D., professor and experimental psychologist at Texas Women鈥檚 University in Dallas.
