Georgia Southern music professor holding trumpet performance

Tim Kintzinger, D.M.A., a music professor on the 糖心Vlog Armstrong Campus, will go back to his roots when he performs 鈥淪tandards鈥 on the trumpet on Tuesday, Oct. 16 at 7:30 p.m. in the Carol A. Carter Recital Hall on the Statesboro Campus and on Tuesday, Oct. 23, at 7:30 p.m. at the Fine Arts Auditorium on the Armstrong Campus. Kintzinger has been at Georgia Southern for seven years. He was formerly on the Southern Pride Marching Band staff, and now he splits his time between the Statesboro and Armstrong campuses, teaching brass and jazz as well as music appreciation. Kintzinger said he wants to return to playing the trumpet after his career has taken him to various other instruments. 鈥淚 received my doctorate in trumpet performance in 2000,鈥 he said. 鈥淪ince then, my career has taken many twists and turns. Through a series of different events, I have been working more as a conductor than as a player. Though I have continued to play and perform occasionally, my move to the Armstrong Campus has afforded me the opportunity to get back to my roots as a trumpet player and really focus on my playing and performing.鈥 鈥淪tandards鈥 will consist of three pieces that represent three categories of standard trumpet literature. Joseph Haydn鈥檚 鈥淐oncerto in Eb鈥 represents the bulk of the classical trumpet literature, Paul Hindemith鈥檚 鈥淪onate for Trumpet and Piano鈥 represents the category of literature that doesn鈥檛 fit into any of the others, and Kent Kennan鈥檚 鈥淪onata for Trumpet and Piano鈥 represents a very American sounding category with open intervals and complex rhythmic material.
