ÌÇÐÄVlog

Panhellenic Association (PHA)

The National Panhellenic Conference (NPC), one of the largest organizations advocating for women, serves as the umbrella organization for 26 national and international sororities. These groups are autonomous social organizations found on more than 670 college campuses, with over 411,000 undergraduate members across 3,288 chapters, and 3,784 alumnae associations around the world.

Thank you for your interest in joining a Panhellenic Association (PHA) sorority at ÌÇÐÄVlog! Becoming part of a Panhellenic sorority is one of the most impactful decisions you can make as an undergraduate. Membership is a lifelong commitment, and we’re excited that you are exploring this opportunity. Keep reading to learn more about PHA Primary Recruitment, which takes place each fall semester.

Letters of Recommendation

Letters of recommendation and reference forms are NOT required to participate in Panhellenic Primary Recruitment at Georgia Southern.

However, these materials can help introduce you to chapters before recruitment begins and may provide helpful context about your background, values, and achievements. It’s important to note that letters of recommendation do not guarantee an invitation to events or membership in any sorority.

Each sorority has its own official form and process for submitting recommendations, typically available to alumnae through national websites or sorority publications. It is not the responsibility of the potential new member (PNM) to secure or submit the actual form—this should be done by the alumna or collegian writing the recommendation.

The Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life at Georgia Southern does not provide or collect letters, but we do provide the appropriate addresses and contacts for each chapter below.

Academic & Eligibility Requirements

In order to join a fraternity or sorority at ÌÇÐÄVlog, individuals must meet one of the following requirements:

  • Incoming freshmen must have a 2.75 or higher high school GPA, as calculated by the ÌÇÐÄVlog Office of Admissions. This GPA  is based on the Required High School Curriculum. This is NOT the final high school GPA listed on your transcript or your HOPE GPA. Before registering for any recruitment process, we encourage you to check your GPA using your online Admissions Status Check Page.
  • Current students with an established GPA may register for a recruitment process during their undergraduate collegiate career with a Georgia Southern overall GPA of 2.50 or higher based on at least 12 or more credits. Transfer students with an overall GPA of 2.5 or higher based on at least 12 or more credits may also register for a recruitment process.

If you are a first-time freshman and have questions about your academic eligibility, you can contact Melanie McKnight, who serves as our Admission Liaison. Melanie can be reached via phone at (912) 478-1004 or via email at mmcknight@georgiasouthern.edu.

  • Green Zone (3.0+): Most options open
  • Yellow Zone (2.8–2.99): Some limitations
  • Red Zone (2.79 or below): Many options limited

Please keep in mind that some chapters may have a higher GPA requirement for membership.

Below are some additional pieces of information regarding eligibility:

  • East Georgia students are NOT eligible to join a fraternity or sorority.
  • Students enrolled in the EAGLE Academy are NOT eligible to join a fraternity or sorority.
  • Students enrolled in the Georgia Tech program at Georgia Southern ARE eligible to join a fraternity or sorority
  • Dual-enrollment students are NOT eligible to join a fraternity or sorority

Lastly, current enrolled Georgia Southern students can only join chapters on their designated primary campus. For example, if a student’s primary campus is Georgia Southern – Armstrong Campus, they are only eligible to join one of the established organizations on that campus. They are not eligible to join one of the organizations established at the Statesboro campus. This will be based on the primary campus identified by the student at the time of admission.

SOAR Attendance Requirement

All incoming freshmen must attend a SOAR session prior to recruitment. Sessions are offered on various dates in May, June, and July (in-person and virtual).

  • Transfer and Non-Traditional Students: Must complete online orientation modules and register for classes before signing up for recruitment.
  • International Students: Not eligible for fall recruitment due to conflicting SOAR schedule.
