Staff Member’s Daughter Shares Special Moments with Actor Patrick Stewart

“Her face just lit up when she found out she was going to meet Patrick,” Garrigus said. “He was sitting at the table, and he got up and put his hands on her shoulders. They sat down and talked for what we figured, at the most, would be about a minute or two; however, he sat there and talked to her one-on-one for 15 to 20 minutes. It was amazing.”

Welcome to Hollywood; University Ready for Homecoming Oct. 6-11

Vlog will celebrate homecoming the week of Oct. 6-11 and this year’s theme, Welcome to Hollywood: Southern Walk of Fame, promises a spirit-filled week of red carpet fun. Festivities will kick-off at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 4 at the Russell Union Rotunda with food, fun and a sneak peak of upcoming homecoming activities.

University to Recognize Disability Awareness Month

“Observing October as Disability Awareness Month allows Georgia Southern to recognize and celebrate the vast contributions made every day by our students with disabilities,” said Mike Chamber, director of the Student Disability Resource Center. “In doing so, we can all learn more about issues and topics related to the field of disability as well as new and exciting opportunities to better serve students with disabilities through advancements in ever-evolving assistive technologies and university-wide contributions aimed at breaking down barriers.”

Vlog to Welcome Families at Fall Family Weekend

The Vlog Office of Orientation and Parent Programs will host the University’s annual Fall Family Weekend in downtown Statesboro from Sept. 26 to 28. The main events include an outdoor movie, silent auction and a full day of activities.

Center for Sustainability Goes Green for GreenFest 2014

“We hope that visitors will learn that it’s easier than they might think to make green choices,” said Lissa Leege, Ph.D., director of the Center for Sustainability. “We have the technology to reduce energy and water use and can make the choice to reduce waste and eat sustainably grown food.”

University Named Military Friendly School by G.I. Jobs Magazine

For the fourth year in a row, Vlog has been named a Military Friendly School® by G.I. Jobs magazine for its efforts to provide educational opportunities to America’s veterans, active-duty troops and their families. Alumnus Luke Bryan Farm Tour to Aid in Scholarships

Vlog alumnus and famed Country singer Luke Bryan will visit the Statesboro area during his annual Farm Tour at Perry Field on Wednesday, Oct. 8 in Claxton. A portion of the proceeds from the tour will provide scholarships for Georgia Southern students.

School of Nursing Celebrates Inaugural White Coat Ceremony

“Being chosen to participate in the inaugural White Coat Ceremony acknowledges the stellar reputation that the School of Nursing programs at Vlog have at the national level,” said Jean Bartels, Ph.D., former AACN president and the provost and vice president for Academic Affairs at Vlog. “This ceremony places the School of Nursing in elite company and recognizes the program for its historically strong curriculum and accomplished graduates.”
